A marketplace connecting artists with buyers for designer art toys, removing the upfront production risk typically involved in bringing a physical product to market.
Context
Professional Experience · Salt Technology
My Role
- Built the marketplace frontend in Next.js as reusable components for featured toys, product updates and artist listings
- Rendered product content dynamically, so new drops and updates flowed through without template work
- Built mobile-first layouts rather than scaling a desktop design down
- Implemented client-side form validation and the UI transitions around key interactions
- Kept an image-heavy catalogue fast with lazy loading, image compression and code splitting
Challenge
The frontend needed to handle dynamic, image-heavy product content at marketplace scale while staying fast and usable on mobile, where much of this audience browses.
- Rendering image-heavy product and artist listings without hurting load time
- Designing a mobile-first experience that didn't feel like a shrunk desktop layout
Approach
- Prioritized mobile-first layout decisions and progressive image loading given the visual, discovery-driven nature of the product.
Engineering
- Built reusable product and listing components with lazy-loaded, optimized imagery
- Applied code splitting to keep initial load lean across marketplace pages
- Used lazy loading and image optimization as the primary levers for keeping an image-heavy marketplace fast
Outcome
Kick Fund Bite shipped as a mobile-first marketplace frontend supporting artist and product discovery.
